Bakers Dolphin offers help to Crossville drivers

West Country coach operator Bakers Dolphin is reaching out to staff from Crosville Motor Services after it announced an end its bus and school transport services in Weston-super-Mare.

Crosville has said its services will run for the last time on April 21.

Now Bakers Dolphin, which has its headquarters in Locking Road, Weston-super-Mare, says it may be able to offer opportunities to Crosville staff.

Managing Director Max Fletcher said: “We were saddened to hear about Crosville’s decision.

“However, we are currently trying to recruit drivers and other staff, so we would like to explore how we can help Crosville staff continue their careers within the coach industry, and how we can bring their experience to Bakers Dolphin.

“It is always upsetting to see a coach business hit difficulty, and to see people potentially face losing their jobs. Bakers Dolphin are committed to Weston-super-Mare and serving the local community.”

“Coach travel is a very competitive and highly-regulated business that is difficult for those without the broad spectrum of income that we have to operate within.”

Bakers Dolphin is the region’s top coach tour operator, offering hundreds of holiday tours around the UK and the continent. It also provides regular daily coach services for schools in the region as well as private hire vehicles.

Established for 128 years, it has seen strong growth in recent years with its mix of national and international tours, day excursions, coach hire and contract work for schools and clubs.

If any Crosville staff affected by the company’s difficult decision this week wish to discuss potential opportunities at Bakers Dolphin, they should contact Derek Forbes on 01934 415000.
